Description
Welcome to nur.studio ?
You are receiving large green granules of Boswellia Sacra tree resin. Humans have been cultivating and gathering this precious and and illuminating resin for thousands of years to burn as an incense. The hardy tree grows in tough environments, often clinging to rocky cliffs. To extract the resin, two small cuts are made in the bark and the tree weeps tears of pure gold. Sap collected earlier in the growing cycle is green and known as Hojari frankincense. There always seem to be a link between suffering and beauty, so interesting! Boswellia Sacra tree resin is known more popularly as Frankincense or olibanum and its scent is often associated with the divine. We think it smells heavenly. 🙂
We travel to meet every one of our manufacturers distributors and it’s no difference for this product. During a recent trip to Oman I had the opportunity to find some excellent Green Hojari Omani Frankincense and began to become fascinated with its history. Before the internet was the silk road, before the silk road was the spice route, and before the spice route was the incense route. Frankincense is potentially a large driver for trade and exchange that has brought the world together and … you to our ETSY page. Thanks Frankincense! Thrankincense.
There are many different rankings of frankincense and we always are seeking the highest quality. Hojari Frankincense is known as medical grade quality, being able to be chewed to help with tooth and gum problems, burned over low heat to help with asthma, or diluted in hot water overnight and ingested the next day to help with stomach, lung, and a variety of other ailments.
From the medical angle alone, it’s clear to see why frankincense was so popular. But is that it? Many people claim religious significance to the tree resin that was brought to the infant Jesus in that famous tale. To this date, Frankincense is used in many religious and spiritual rituals.
300 years before Jesus was born, Alexander The Great was addicted to what arabs call Luban. His mentor Leonidas scolded him for using too much frankincense during a religious offering, telling him that he should be mindful of his use until he was able to concur the lands of spices. Which he did about a dozen years later, sending his mentor around 18 tons of frankincense to his previous mentor with a snarky note kindly requesting him not to be so stingy with the gods. – Ah, I love this story.
The interesting thing about this beautifully scented smoke is that there is a physical correlation to the claims of spiritual significance. Frankincense has psychoactive properties that supports a state of calm.
“Specifically the incense activated the protein TRPV3 which is common in all mammal brains. This protein is already known to help play a role in our skins perception of warmth. The effect on the mind, however, has a strong anti-depressant and anxiolytic effect which can leave you feeling open and relaxed. Frankincense helps your mind to rest and simply perceive the world around it.”

I have a lot to say about Luban, as the arabs call Frankincense, and I’d love to share. For that I’m planning a blogpost on nur.studio, so stay tuned 🙂
A disclaimer, this trip I wasn’t able to visit the farms and the processing center where they sort the frankincense like we normally do. I’m really hoping to return to the region from which the Hojari Frankincense comes from and to make sure, like we do with all the rest of our products, that beauty is maintained from “Dirt to Delivery [TM]”. We’d like to ensure that every element which touches your product is beautiful. From paying employees well and creating good working conditions, to the sustainability of the plants and the earth from which all this beauty emerges. We can’t always guarantee this, and we’re always working to find other supporting companies along our journey of a beauty based business. Of course, we’ll always let you know. The distributors in Muskat did seem pretty nice and happy. I took a photo with them, you can see it above.
Thanks for reading and I hope you try our awesome Hojari Frankincense from Oman!
Have a beautiful day ?
